Why a Kick viewer count goes missing

A Kick viewer count is missing on kick.com when the streamer has turned off the Show view count switch in the Creator Dashboard. Viewers then can't see the number anywhere on the channel. In Kick's public API, which stats sites read, a hidden count comes through as 0, the same as a stream nobody is watching.

Why a Kick channel shows no viewer count

Kick streamers can hide their viewer count with one switch. The Show view count switch sits under Channel actions in the Creator Dashboard. With the switch off, the count is hidden everywhere from anyone watching the channel.

The streamer still sees the number in the Creator Dashboard.

How to hide or show the count on your channel

  1. Go to your Creator Dashboard on Kick.
  2. Open Channel actions.
  3. Select Show view count. Your viewer count is now hidden from anyone watching.

To show the count again, repeat the same steps and switch the toggle back on. Kick's menus can move after an update, so check the labels in your own dashboard.

What stats sites see when a count is hidden

Kick's public API lists every live stream with its broadcaster, category, language, start time, title and viewer count. Kick's documentation describes the viewer count only as a whole number. A viewer count of 0 means no count is shown. The streamer may have hidden it, or nobody may be watching. Kick's API documentation doesn't say which.

A stats site can't tell those two cases apart from the number alone. Treating every 0 as an empty stream would count some hidden channels as having no audience. KickStatz labels a 0 as "no count shown" instead.

How KickStatz handles a stream with no count shown

A sweep is the check KickStatz makes of Kick's public API, once every 10 minutes. A 0 in a sweep is treated the same way across the site, and How it works sets out each figure.

  • Average viewers: counts only the sweeps where a count was shown.
  • Peak viewers: the highest count any sweep saw.
  • Live list: the live channel list shows channels with a viewer count. Channels with no count shown are left off the list, because there's no number to sort them by.
  • Totals: the number watching now adds up channels that show a count. Channels live with no count shown get a separate total.
  • Stream history: a finished stream is kept if it reached 5 or more viewers. A stream that shows no count at every sweep never reaches 5. It is kept only if the channel was looked up on the site.

Say six sweeps see a stream. Four show 40 viewers and two show 0. The stream's average on KickStatz is 40, taken from the four sweeps with a count, and its peak is also 40.

The home page shows how many channels were live with no count shown in the latest sweep, and what share of live channels that is. The figure changes every sweep, and it mixes hidden counts with streams nobody is watching.

Kick views and viewer counts

The live number on a Kick stream is its viewer count. KickStatz reads that count at each sweep as the number of people watching at that moment, and builds its other figures from those readings.

Watched hours on KickStatz are average viewers multiplied by hours live. Say a stream runs for 2 hours with an average of 50 viewers. Its watched hours come to 100.

Each reading is a snapshot, so the sweeps can miss a brief spike that falls between two of them. Kick's own analytics count things a public reading can't. Unique Viewers, for example, is the number of individual accounts that watched any part of a streamer's content in the period.

Kick viewer analytics for your own channel

Your own Kick viewer analytics sit in the Creator Dashboard under Analytics. Among them are Peak CCV, Average CCV, Hours Watched and Unique Viewers. While you stream, the live Creator Dashboard shows your current Viewers.

For Kick live analytics on another channel, use a public stats site, because each streamer's own analytics are private to them.

Questions

Does hiding the viewer count hide it from stats sites?

Stats sites that read Kick's public API get a 0 for that channel. KickStatz shows a 0 as no count shown, because a 0 can also mean nobody is watching.

Can the streamer still see a hidden viewer count?

Yes. The streamer can still see their own viewer count in the streamer dashboard.

Why does a channel show viewers on Kick but none on KickStatz?

KickStatz sweeps every 10 minutes. A stream that started after the last sweep won't appear until the next one. A stream that showed 0 at the last sweep appears with no count shown until a sweep sees a number.

How many Kick channels hide their viewer count?

The share changes from sweep to sweep, so no fixed figure holds. The KickStatz home page shows how many live channels had no count shown in the latest sweep. That figure mixes hidden counts with channels nobody is watching.

Does a hidden count change a channel's average on KickStatz?

The average counts only sweeps where a count was shown. A channel that hides its count for a whole stream has no average for that stream.

To see every live channel that shows a viewer count, open the KickStatz live list.
